Root Intrusion Root intrusion is a common cause of blockage in drains, particularly old clay drains, as these are nearly always found to be leaking. Leaking drains will attract roots looking for moisture and these will wrap around the pipe and find even the smallest gap into the drain. Once inside they can lay undetected for a year or two slowly causing cracks to appear until the pipe finally collapses or they grow so rapidly that they completely fill the pipe up. Either way they cause major problems to the home/business owner. If picked up early roots can normally be removed by high pressure jets, but if they are too severe they can be removed by way of mechanical cutter. Plumbing & Drainage Direct Ltd have the equipment and the expertise to assist with any root intrusion problems you may be experiencing. A circular rotating cutter can be fed into the drain and will remove even the largest and most stubborn of root. After the roots have been removed the pipe is then flushed through to remove any debris ready for the liner to be installed. The liner can be cut to the required length to seal and strengthen the pipe and prevent roots from breaking in to the line again. This usually means re-lining the length from one manhole to the next as partial repair would just allow the roots to move further along the outside of the pipe and break into the next open joint or crack. Once installed the liner is guaranteed to protect against root intrusion for ten years. Although expect it to last significantly longer. All our vans carry the equipment to deal with this type of emergency and we usually have the job completed in one visit |
